# Foreword
What follows is taked from the ** *The Dark Nun's Church* ** module published by [Penny Blood Adventures](https://www.pennybloodadventures.com/). It has been changed to fit the world and campaign (and to adjust some grammar that bothered me).

# Introduction
People are going missing. Religious chanting can be heard in the middle of the night. A foul smell rises from the depths of a dark and evil church!

The Dark Nun's Church is a 5E compatible adventure for groups of 2-5 people. The adventure is designed for fifth-level players but can be expanded to support players up to and beyond level 16.

Have lots of fun, and don't let the Dark Nuns get you!

# Running the Adventure
The adventure is written for 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons. The D&D Player's Handbook will have detailed instructions on how to play.

The monsters, spells, and magic items are unique to this game. Each room will have a breakdown of the room description and a list of the monsters, traps, magic items, non-player characters, and treasure. Special items are highlighted in bold text. Details for the Monsters, Magic Items, and Non-Player Characters can be found at the back of the book.

You should run the game how you like. There are no hard and fast rules for how your adventurers move through the game. A Random Encounter table is located at the end of the adventure to ensure chance encounters happen.

You will see that there are several different versions of the Maps. Maps with a DM in the name are for the Dungeon Master (DM). The DM maps have labels for all the rooms that match the names in this adventure book. The maps without DM can be given to the adventurers. The maps are available in full color, night version (very cool when presented on a large screen TV), printer-friendly in black and white, and Sepia Tone version.

Finally, the game includes separate cards for the Maps, Monsters, Magic Items, and Non-Player Characters in both Black & White and color.

# Background
The Dark Nuns worship at a Church located outside of the small village of Kilwich. The church was dedicated to Mandos, but is now run by the Dark Mother Superior who has a twisted view of how to worship him. She is a powerful, dark half-elf using the "Books of New Living," three cursed books that contain horrific spells, to reanimate corpses back to life.

# Story Hook
People from Kilwich have been taken against their will to the church. The innkeeper, Grilia, an old tiefling, suspects that the Dark Nuns have taken his sister, Lena, and her husband, Tatum. He offers 100GP to anyone who can find and bring Lena and Tatum back.

>[!note]
>
>To fit my campaign the hook is that the party has been asked to make possible the marriage of a young couple (see [[plots/free-city-of-haven/scenarios/the-secret-ceremony|The Secret Ceremony]] ). It must be done out of town but on consecrated ground. A supposedly abandoned church several miles outside the city is to be used...except it's not so abandoned! Also, the village got named Kilwich.
