What follows is taked from the Mine Your Own Business module from Robert Musci-Kurinyecz and Gergely Sepsi (full credits below). It has been changed to fit the world and campaign.

About this module

This module can be told as a standalone adventure or can be inserted in any campaign with a mediaeval style, high magic setting.

You can play this adventure with just the Dungeons & Dragons basic rules found in the System Reference Document (SRD), which contains some of the monsters and NPCs making their appearance in this module. Spells and items are in italic, and are also described in the SRD or in appendix B respectively if noted.

Background Timeline

The following events lead up to the current time when the party arrives.

• Theresia Terion, wife of mayor Gingar Terion, wanted to climb the social ladder and warned her hubby that she’d leave him if he didn’t sort out their money issues.
• When a gold seam was discovered in the local coal mine, Teresia saw an opportunity and insisted on additional workers and guards be hired to exploit the workers seam.
• Theresia also made a deal with Pardin to oversee operations. He was recommended by one of Theresia’s tea partners from Brighton, as a person who could sort out problems with the “peasants”. He also breeds exotic ‘animals’ (more like rabid monsters) for fun and profit.
• Something happened in the mine, leading to the death of Icah, one of their number. They have been chased away from the mine. Plus, Theresia has lost contact with Pardin.
• The workers and the sellswords are all afraid to enter the mine without the all-clear message from Pardin.
• Mayor Gingar Terion locks the mine to ensure whatever is inside doesn’t escape
• The reality is that Pardin had spent his entire life dealing with beasts, but the last monster egg he bought had no connection to the animal kingdom. Pardin, who relied on his extensive experience and magical items to tame beasts, was outmatched. The creature turned on its owner, unleashing havoc in the mine. This rampage led to the tragic death of Icah, one of the miners.
• The party arrives in town and desperate local miners scrape together their last coins to plead with the party to rid the mine of the scary monster. The miners are eager to resume digging for gold and reclaim their fortunes.
• As the party accepts the task, the mayor intervenes, refusing to hand over the key to the mine. Fearful of the possible escape of the lurking monster, the mayor insists on keeping the mine sealed.
