Several guilds are present withing the city of Haven representing various aspects of commerce and daily life. Each guild has it’s own internal rules but they have the same basic membership levels: apprentice, journeymen, masters, guild masters.

Guilds are responsible for setting rules and standards that apply to practices within their relative spheres of interest. While some guilds may have strict control over who can practice, others are less strict. For example, the Guild of Entertainers is very strict in enforcing a “members only” rule and will take steps to ensure anyone not a member is “discouraged” from performing anywhere - for hire or on the streets. Anyone who hires a non-member to perform could find themselves in hot water with the guild. The Guild of the Hearth requires its members to follow this rule.

Council of Masters

Anyone who has attained the rank of Master in their guild is entitled to sit on the Council of Masters. In addition to providing forum to address issues common to all guilds, this body provides advice to the Council of Boroughs via the member they appoint to that council.

While nominally, each guild gets the same number of votes, the real power lies with the five “great guilds” and most others will fall in line with whatever they want.

The council meets in The Hall of All Guilds.

Thieves Guild

Existing outside this formal structure is the Thieves Guild. They are however, a major force within the City and neither the Council of Masters nor the Council of Boroughs take them lightly.
