Description

For a full descriptions refer to Glorious Taverns, page 138.

The “Baroness” is a no-nonsense elf who runs the inn with militaristic discipline. Her main objective is to keep her business lucrative and catering to only the most successful of upper nobility and their distinguished guests. She has neither the time nor tolerance for mistakes or half measures. Her countenance is stoically beautiful, and she speaks firmly and directly while very rarely engaging in small talk. She bears a cold and direct presence that is felt tenfold by those in her employ.

Formerly a lord’s mansion, The Rose Garden Inn prides itself as being the finest establishment not only within the city walls, but the entire region. The lush and vibrant gardens and promenades that grace the perimeter of the mansion were once open to the public, until its sturdy perimeter fence was built some time ago. Now, with the enclosure, these aromatic alcoves, gardens and scenic walks are available to guests and their visitors only.

Overall, the Rose Garden Inn boasts an atmosphere that is quite lavish and pretentious. In the daylight hours, the numerous flower gardens and elegant walkways serve as a means of afternoon tea, or a chance for couples in potential courtship to promenade. The ornate banquet hall also lends itself to such opportunities for those guests who do not wish to spend time in the sunlight and enjoy conversations undisturbed by the noise of the city or its harbors. Often these conversations involve business of high importance. In fact, some of the largest export deals in existence have been struck within the inn’s walls.

As is evident throughout the entire location, only the finest furniture and furnishings have been selected for The Rose Garden Inn. The bedrooms are spacious, with large beds whose posts are worked with carvings and inlaid with silver. Elegant silken sheets are provided daily. Every bedroom is laid with thick red carpets. Lavish stone baths are located separately from the bedrooms, with the exception of the penthouse, which includes personal baths. Staff members place fresh flowers in decorative ceramic vases and replace them daily. Selections of wine are also included in the bedrooms.

Just inside Shield Gate you see a marvellous three-tiered structure of polished brick peeking above the other buildings you first negotiate a sturdy iron perimeter fence. Following this, you come to a stone archway that is wrapped in rich green ivy and through which you see a luscious green lawn. The smell of the freshly cut grass fills the senses.

A cobbled road leads the way to the main stone stairwell of the mansion and is ornamented with flower gardens and flowing granite fountains. The tavern stable hands are busy and bustling as they help patrons disembark. You can feel the heaviness of the rich history that is associated with this old establishment and swells of anticipation race as you get closer to the heavy ornate exotic hardwood door which through its glass panels you can distinctly see blurs of activity. >

The exterior of the establishment is comprised mainly of polished brick. It is window-laden, with each glass panel bearing intricate ironmongery. A three-story marvel, a tall archway of ivy-wreathed stone serves as the entrance onto the main lawn. Down the center of the lawn traverses a smooth cobble path that diverges into the various flower beds and hedgerows that ornament this portion of the property. This road leads right up to the front stairwell of the Rose Garden Inn, up which a heavy ornate door of exotic hardwood and glass panels leads guests within.

Upon entry, you find a grand staircase directly in the center of the main hall. This leads up to the second floor of the property, where one will find accommodations situated. To the left and right of the main entrance are subsidiary walkways leading to various ball rooms, smoking rooms, studies and dining halls.

One of the establishment’s twenty-two employees will provide guests with a tour of the mansion, as it is common for one to get lost among its various corridors and rooms.

Customers

Ephi has lived among the patrons at The Rose Garden Inn longer than she can remember. After turning herself invisible one day, she followed a carriage through the main gate, and its company through the main doors.

From that point forward, she has magically disguised herself by altering her appearance into a near-carbon copy of the inn’s guests-or more specifically, their children. Occasionally she will take on the appearance of a chaste human female in search of courtship and dazzle in the ballroom; at others that of a distinguished gentleman so as to lounge in the smoking room. Hers is a genuine, insatiable thirst for innocent mischief. She particularly enjoys confounding guests to the point of utter bewilderment

Reliddack Wulviss is a jovial, older gnome with an engaging personality and sharp wit. His congenial nature and small stature make him well-liked, especially amongst children. Reliddack is known for growing thriving medicinal herbs, such as can cure even diseases heretofore believed incurable. Additionally, he has found cures for other, more aesthetic, afflictions, such as the appearance of old age. His access to such properties has gained him significant ground in the highest of social circles.

Loiterers

Any outsiders who arrive to visit guests must do so by invitation only. Those without proper invitation are turned away by the rotating quartet of guardsmen that are on duty around the clock.
