Wandering Folk

essentially gypsies

multiple clans

The folk are also renowned for their “second sight”, and several members of the clan will see clients for foreseeing, answering questions, etc. during the day - for a reasonable fee, of course.

Organization

  • fairly loose
  • different clans tend to one or two region but could be found anywhere
  • no direct control over a region but clans will pay respects to another clan that calls that area home
  • Major cities have a zone where visiting clans will congregate: e.g. Trade Island in Haven
  • Clan head is the law for that clan
  • Heads negotiate/intermediate in disagreements
  • Council of Wandering Folk:
    • heads from each clan
    • meet every two years

Clan Ursa

Clan Ursa are primarily horse dealers and trainers from the Great Plains area, dark of skin and hair, and wear brightly colored, embroidered garb. They are led by Daruko Ken-Ursa, a proud, shrewd man, and a charismatic leader whose total authority is rarely questioned. The clan consists of around forty men, women and children, and keep mostly to themselves, although they may wander through a local market/bazaar.

The Ursa speak their own language among themselves, but they also know the Common tongue and many other languages from their constant traveling.

They are in the Free City of Haven for the annual Stallion’s Challenge, the most prestigious horse race in the region (see Haven Scenarios).

Religion

Most Wandering Folk have little time for deities and religion in general - they vary from agnosticism to atheism. A few however, especially those with a trade closely related to a deity, will acknowledge their existence. For example, a healer will, at the very least, pay lip service to Lohi.
