We head back to town and get there mid-day and head to the inn. Walking in, we see the basic assembly of people, including the barkeep and miners.

There are a couple people we don’t know, who look like a farmer and a priestess.

As we enter, one of the miners jumpsp who we met before (Cham Clowder). Is the mine open?”Well, we have good news and bad news. The mine is open, but there is a large wolf prowling outside, and there are a lot of dead bodies to have to clean out, and we also found an untapped gold vein.

They brings ale and food as we sit down to fill them in.

We also ask if they know a Trench Foast. They dont seem to.

The mayor’s wife? Asks if we saw anyone inside.

Eugene gives the rundown. Martin adds the well dressed hermit is dead. She asks if we are sure he is dead. Martin asks if her name starts with a T, she says yes, Theresia

Martin notices the Mayor looks sad for some reason. Penelope sees something in Theresia’s face when Eugene shows him the minor illusion of the hermit. She walks away.

The mayor seems happy that they can get back to work. They asks if we found anything. Eugene says we found some materials within our one pound limit and produces a bag.

We give the key back to the mayor and hurries over to see his wife.

The miners ask if they can go back to work. We tell them about the giant spiders and the gold vein back there. We also mention the new opening that leads to what looks like a dungeon, so they may want to seal it off. Or explore it. Or charge adventurers to explore it.

Turin sees the mayor and Theresia in a heated discussion. They both seem pissed about something.

We also explain how to sell fake maps to draw adventurers in. Rico comes and givess food and drink.

Eugene asks the mayor if they have a town militia who needs supplies(the swords we found). He says not really, the townfolk manage what they can bring. Also the wife headspstairs.

As that conversation winds down, the farmer comes over and asks if we can help. He says his name is Thomas and he has a farm out of town. His sons have fallen ill, and he thinks it is more than an illness, maybe a curse. The priestess says she is pretty sure this is true.

He says there is a hag nearby, and the boys wander. He is afraid the boys may have bothered her and she cursed them. The priestess(Lenita, who looks somewhat otherworldly, like she came from across the sea)says ah, a fellow priest, that she follows Ariel, the deity of love and the arts.

She says she has seen Thomases sons and she believes it is not a normal disease. She saw them yesterday. Eugene asks if they have seen tracks. Martin asks if she has tried to remove curse, she says her goddess doesn’t really go that way, but she’s tried and no luck.

Eugene asks if she is an old woman who lives alone or a hag hag. And if she has seen something like the wolf orndeadnicorn tracks.

Turin also asks the mayor if there is a barge we could take downriver. He thinks we could find something but it would take a couple days. If we did that, Turin thinks we would save a day or two over the course of the journey since it would be downriver.

Martin asks if there is a blacksmith in town and if there is a jeweler. Smith, yes, jeweler no. There is a clothier though.

After lunch we head to Thomas’ farm which takes an hour or so. It looks like a reasonable farm. He has some cows, probably for dairy and a little beef. We go into a nice enough farmhouse. He takess to see the boys, Barney(9)and Fred(12).

Neither boy looks healthy at all. They look like they are in restless sleep, maybe not in pain, but achy at least.

Martin gives them a look over, and casts lesser restoration on Fred. It has a minor effect and allows him to sleep more restfully. Martin casts the same thing on Barney. Eugene casts detect magic, which does seem to show a magical effect on them of some sort. Probably related to the curse. An augury also suggests seeing the hag is a good idea.

Thomas givess the directions to the hag’s house, but tellss we won’t be able to take the wagon, though maybe we could take a horse. Turin decides to bring Ace.

As we are leaving, Lenita comesp tos and says, since you are goingp there anyhow, could you do me a favor? In her clearing, there is an herbal garden with a flower(sunstone creeper)that she needs for an alchemical potion. If we can get one, she would appreciate it.

We follow the path that was described, Turin in front, Penelope in back, Arada doing loops around the party and Martin keeping an eye out.

We approach a colorful scene that looks like something out of the Feywild.

We see across the circle an older woman flanked by a pair of wolves.

<imgsrc=“worlds/antheros/assets/journal/pasted-image-ZfFKd9g0jNJi1okh. png”width=“624”height=“685”>

She asks what we are doing, and Martin says we were seeking the lady of the clearing because two boys have taken ill with a supernatural ailment and we’ve heard that in her expertise we’ve heard she might have knowledge that could help cure them.

She(Ludmilla)invitess closer. The wolves Bonemeal and Toothache lick their chops.

Eugene asks if she minds if she casts spells because he is going to cast something to make sure something tell the truth. She takes offense at this.

She says she has seen the boys, they interrupted her, and they deserve what they got.

She says she might be able to be persuaded to provide a cure if we can help with a bear problem she has. Penelope is pretty sure all this is going to end withs shaving a yak.

Old Great Black has finally lost his mind, killing everything in sight. If we do this, she says she can probably find a cure. If we go now, we might be there by early night, call it 8pm. She givess basic instructions towards the west. Arada points out that if we stay, she could sneak out and look for the flower.

We head out. As we leave her lair, Martin picksp a rock, studies it, and drops it again for future locate object purposes.

We head west. The wolves follow along withs.

Around sunset we come to a clearing in the woods. Arada climbs on top of a rock. She says”guys, the bear is over there. ”

Turin ties off Ace, and heads around the rock, casting speak with animals. Martin bonds Turin, Arada, and Penelope.

He growls to teh bear”we come in peace, are you okay ” “it hurts, everything hurts. They come and hurt”

“Who is they? ”“Little things, pebbly ”

“Smaller than me ” “yes ”

“Smaller than her on the rock""no… stabby things”

“When do they come?” ”

Turin gets anger and fear

“If we took away your pain, will you hurts?""no”

Turin believes him.

Martin walksp and casts cure wounds on the bear a couple times. He also give chin scritches.

Turin asks about the stabby things, and he says he killed some(pointing to corpses).

Turin asks where the stabby things come from, and the bear indicates that way.

Turin says now that we’ve helped him, will he no longer hurt the old lady. He says he only hurts when the stabby things hurts him.

“Is it okay if we spend the night here and go hunt the stabby things in the morning""stay here, go morning”

Turin also looks at the dead goblin stabby things to see if he recognizes any tribal patches. They are the tribe endemic to the Khuz mountains.

Martin sends a message to Lyza”We found the gems, we’re hunting some goblins for the bear so the hag will cure the sick kids”. u201cBlink blink… I’m sure that makes sense in context”

He then sends one to Olivia”We have the gems, how many do we need and can you tell Jillie at the pastry store Martin and his friends are okay""3-4 pounds, and I can go get pastry”

We think that betweens we have enough.

The night passesneventfully
