Eugene goes to see if Thom can do a quick mend but there is no answer.
Martin asks Porky and Mrs Clever if they have seen Lyza and they say not recently.
We decide to go see how Olivia, the tower and/or Mayor are doing.
On the door of Olivia’s shop is a note that says “Gone Junk Picking, Back Whenever. ” We leave the shop to stop by the Mayor’s palace to ask about our note. The clerk directss to the second floor. We go to the Mayor’s office to ask. Many people are working outside. We leave a note for the mayor to authorizes to get some Haven Steel from the Have Ironworks to fix the Haven Clockwork Tower of Doom.
< Eugene writes a note for the Mayor and gives it to Maurice, the Chief Clerk to the Mayor >
Turin checks to see if the Mayor is in, but doesn’t find anything. Arada thinks she recognizes one of the clerks(Chelsea). She hands her tabard and sneaks over. Arada confirms the mayor is out at some function .
We trundle downstairs and walk to the tower fully expecting to see a group of guardsmen. But there aren’t any that we can see. There does appear to be rope tied around the pillars as a vague caution tape. There is an empty chair and a bottle and some cigarette butts.
Eugene asks a passerby if they know where the guard are. The passenger says they were there earlier today. Turin sees a black handprint beside the open door. Eugene, Penelope and Arada go to Noble Way Station and see if they know why the guard aren’t there. Martin and Turin stay to keep an eye out inconspicuously. The sergeant is stunned to hear the crew isn’t there. He says he is going to send a squad and come look too.
Meanwhile Turin sits in the chair and Martin goes to look and see if anyone is keeping an eye. Martin sees a dwarf to the north leaning against the pillar to the north. Martin asks what the dwarf is doing and he says he is waiting for a friend. Martin wants to know what friend and why he is there. The dwarf is not cooperative. He is wearing a chestplate. A female tiefling comesp and asks if the copper is causing problems. Martin explains that the watch is trying to keep people from getting slaughtered inside. And lots of entrails.
Eventually the party returns. They see a female tiefling against the pillar. Martin is pretty sure it is the same woman. He tells Arada, Penelope, and Eugene about the dwarf and tiefling. The sergeant comes back with a troop of men. They will keep guard while we go in.
We go in. There are blood stains and dead bodies. A human male with a guard tabard and human female in dark colors. Turin can tell both bodies have lots of little bites, as if they were bitten by large spiders. We haul the bodies back outside and give them to the sergeant.
Tick and tock say there were two in the tower and both killed by the spiders. And we are friends to the tower. So we have that going fors. We decide to have a quick look around. We tie a rope around Martin and Penelope and Turin and hold him while he peeks in at the death robot. No bodies, so yay. A quick look around the tower shows nothing else either.
Turin looks for guard footprints. In the southwest corner he sees a spot where the guard footprints turn to drag marks. The marks lead to the path north of Guilder’s Park. There may be a couple sets of footprints. The tracks lead towards the Guildhall of Provenders. Turin finds some additional drag marks leading to where the body might have gotten pickedp.
We let the sergeant know what we found. He has another set of guards. The missing guards will take a large dent out of their complement. The sergeant is going to talk to the officers and comep with a new plan for securing it.
We head back to the inn via Olivia’s but the note was still there. We return to the inn. Porky says No Lyza but a fancy pants came with a scroll case . Based on the markings it appears to be official city business. We open it and find a piece of parchment on official city letterhead authorizings to obtain reasonable amounts of Haven Steel and Ironwood coal. Signed by Elspeth Windermere.
It is late, so we decide to go to sleep.
