He introduces himself as "William the Bard" (see what he hides, below).He also carries a leather case with a fine lute, but while he is proficient with the lute and several other musical instruments, he has never studied to become a true bard. William is upbeat and tends to always see things from the bright side, including his own mistakes. His reputation as a famous bard is dubious, and valuable items have a tendency to disappear when he is around. **Armour and weapon:** William Fastfinger carries one dagger in each boot and four daggers hidden up his sleeves. He also has a leather case with nine darts and a small bottle of Essence of Ether on his person for emergencies. He wears studded leather armour under his cloak. **Trait:** I rarely tell the truth – but I am also an abysmally bad liar. **Ideal:** Kind-Of-Honourable (i.e. I steal only from those who can afford to lose their possessions. Come to think about it, technically it isn't stealing at all.) **Bond:** I will never forget my first true love. **Flaw:** I can't help nicking stuff, even if it is small mundane items of no value.## information William Fastfinger is willing to tell anyone who will listen how unfairly the Winterhold Guards treat regular people these days. He also likes to point out that because of the steep taxes, even completely honest people have to resort to illegal activities to survive. ## what he hides William habitually presents himself as a bard, but sometimes his true name slips off his tongue: “My name is William Fastfinger – I mean William the Bard!”William has a keen eye for details and ferreting out secrets. He has noticed that both [[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/npcs/hugo-von-silverton|Hugo von Silverton]] and [[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/npcs/inga-broadhammer|Inga Broadhammer]] seem nervous, and he finds it odd that [[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/npcs/cael-thraelive|Cael Thraelive]] appears unruffled by [[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/npcs/artemis-nahanna|Artemis Nahanna's]] death. He also suspects that [[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/npcs/kara-tanner|Kara Tanner]] moved in shadier circles before she became a soldier. However, William won't share this information unless he is pressured. ## what he lies about William is a catastrophically bad liar. He enjoys bending the truth and telling tall tales, but his dreadful acting skills and unreliable tongue often betray him. He knows about Inga's involvement with the local smugglers and that they used to store contraband in the basement, but as he used to be a part of the gang himself, he will try to keep quiet about this. William regrets his involvement with the smugglers, since he found their dealings too dangerous and their manners too rough. He was present when the smugglers threatened [[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/npcs/enoch-the-birdwhisperer|Enoch the Birdwhisperer]] into silence, and he is afraid that the old man will recognise him. If asked why he is hiding in the stables, William will claim that he can't afford to rent a room.
