# General Info
Kara Tanner is a female human guard (CN). She has short, coily hair and a small scar that runs across her left eyebrow. Kara wears a soldier's uniform with a cornflower-blue cloak, worn riding boots, and a tunic with Winterhold's coat of arms: Two axes crossed above a snowflake. 
 
As Kara was second in command after Lieutenant [[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/npcs/artemis-nahanna|Artemis Nahanna]], she is now in charge of the patrol. She is assertive and has a determined attitude, but she is unused to leadership and can be brusque. 
 
 **Armour and weapon:**  Kara Tanner wears breastplate armour and carries a longsword and a light crossbow with ten bolts. 
 
 **Trait: ** I always make sure that I know all the exits from a room and always sit with my back against the wall. Old habits die hard. 
 
 **Ideal:**  Change. Everyone deserves a second chance, but no one should be given a third one. 
 
 **Bond:**  My beloved died in prison together with my heart, but one day I will get my vengeance and hunt down the spineless rat who betrayed us.
 
 **Flaw: ** I can't resist a game of dice or cards, even though I have lost all my money more than once. 
 
## information  
Kara will readily explain that she has visited the Old Wolf Inn previously together with Artemis  Nahanna and [[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/npcs/jon-callion|Jon Callion]]. They patrol the area to keep travellers safe from bandits, drow, and monsters. They also scout for smugglers who try to slip goods past the toll at Oxgate. So far, the guards have found signs of both drow and bandits, but Kara is unaware that smugglers use the Old Wolf Inn for storing contraband. 
 
When Artemis and Jon returned from their patrol, Kara noticed that Artemis had been unusually excited. However, he never told Kara about the drow cave that they had found or his riding accident. Kara noticed that Artemis was pale and drawn during dinner, but she simply assumed that he was tired.
 
Artemis returned to his room early after instructing Kara and Jon that he had an important report to write and didn't want to be disturbed.
 
## what she hides  
Kara will hide that she dislikes Jon and she is jealous of his quick rise in rank. In addition, she loathes his pompous airs and his subtle, but snide comments about her lowborn origins. 
 
Although Kara believes that Artemis was a competent leader and strategist, she felt that he took advantage of a soldier's right to free food and shelter. However, she doesn't want to speak ill of the dead and is reluctant to share this opinion. Kara hasn't noticed that Inga was annoyed with the soldiers' frequent visits to the inn. 
 
If asked directly why she thought that Artemis looked pale during dinner, Kara will say that she believes Artemis was either ill, poisoned, or previously injured. Artemis never admitted if he was hurt or unwell, since he thought it was a sign of weakness. 
 
## what she lies about  
Kara will lie about her background. She is a former thug with a gambling problem and has spent some time in prison. After a robbery that went disastrously wrong, she decided to leave her criminal past behind and left town. She joined the Winterhold Guards by presenting forged documents that revealed nothing about her past.
