````col-mdflexGrow=2.5===# General InfoJon Callion is a male human knight (LE). He is a good-looking man in his late thirties, with brown side-swept hair, neatly trimmed sideburns, and a perfectly straight nose. Like [[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/npcs/kara-tanner|Kara Tanner]], Jon wears a Winterhold Guards' uniform with a cornflower-blue cloak, shining breastplate armour, and well-polished riding boots. He is naturally serious and sombre, but he can also be charming and helpful, and tends to win people's confidence. The Winterhold Guards recently recruited Jon, and he has risen in rank quickly. While Kara technically is the patrol's second in command after [[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/npcs/artemis-nahanna|Artemis Nahanna]], Jon swiftly became Artemis's favourite. **Armour and weapon:** Jon carries a long sword and wears breastplate armour. He also carries a concealed dagger coated with *Drow Poison* . A creature that is hit by the dagger must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or be Poisoned for 1 hour. If the saving throw fails by 5 or more, the creature is also Unconscious while Poisoned in this way. Jon also has two additional bottles of *Drow Poison* that he can use. **Trait:** I am punctual, neat, and tidy, as I thoroughly loathe disorder of any kind. **Ideal:** Power. One day, I will become the puppeteer behind the throne and secretly rule the kingdom. **Bond:** I owe my old mentor a debt, but I have no intention of ever repaying it. **Flaw:** I am fundamentally remorseless and can't empathise with people who show mercy or kindness.## the making of a murderer Sly, calculating, and wholly self-centred, Jon Callion has been selling information about the whereabouts of the Winterhold Guards to the local drow for many months. He had planned to double-cross the drow at a later point and thereby receive a promotion to increase in rank.When Jon and Artemis stumbled upon tracks left behind by the drow, Artemis insisted that they should follow them. The tracks led to a nearby cave that showed signs of being used for storing stolen supplies and captives taken during nightly raids. Artemis realised the importance of the cave, as it could serve as a perfect spot for ambushing the drow. He instantly decided to head for the Old Wolf Inn to write a report and send it with all haste to Captain Osil Twoaxe, the leader of the Winterhold Guards. Jon's clandestine scheme was in peril, since this would prevent him from double-crossing the drow. Therefore, he cold-heartedly decided to kill Artemis. His first murder attempt was to arrange a riding accident on their way to the inn, but although Artemis fell off his horse, he only broke a rib. Jon quickly devised a new plan and bided his time until they reached the Old Wolf Inn. When Jon arrived at the inn, he purchased a *Potion of Healing* from the merchant [[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/npcs/hugo-von-silverton|Hugo von Silverton]]. He carefully peeled off its label and attached it to a vial of lethal poison. Later that evening, Jon gave the vial to Artemis and claimed that it was a healing potion that would help him recover from the injuries that he had sustained from falling off his horse. Jon drank the potion without realising that it was a lethal poison, and soon passed away.Jon knew that Artemis' death might rouse suspicion and that Hugo was a liability – so to tie up the loose ends, Jon poisoned the wine in Hugo's room (see more under Developments in chapter 4).## information Jon will freely admit that he has been to the Old Wolf Inn many times before in the company of [[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/npcs/artemis-nahanna|Artemis Nahanna]] and [[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/npcs/kara-tanner|Kara Tanner]], where they have received free food and lodgings. Jon will also say that he had the highest respect for Artemis as a seasoned soldier, and that he hoped that his superior had approved of him as well. Jon will also say that he respects Kara, but that he believes himself to be a better leader.If he can find a good opportunity, he will briefly mention that Kara's past might be a little questionable, and she didn't seem to like Artemis, perhaps because of his repeated demands for the soldiers' right to free food and shelter. Jon will also add that [[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/npcs/inga-broadhammer|Inga Broadhammer]] didn't appear to be overly pleased by Artemis' recurring visits to her inn, and point out that he saw Inga deliver tea to Artemis' room during the evening when he died.## what he hides Jon will try to hide his dislike of Kara. If pressed, he will admit that he didn't always like Artemis's unfair treatment of the common folk, but since the lieutenant was in charge, there was nothing he could do about it. Although Jon won't like to admit it, he found Artemis' conduct thoroughly petty. If pressed, Jon will admit that he gave Artemis a potion and that his superior didn't like to admit weaknesses to anyone. He will then swiftly try to shift the blame (see below).## what he lies about Jon will lie about how he murdered Artemis and poisoned [[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/npcs/hugo-von-silverton|Hugo von Silverton's]] wine. He will try to evade any questions about what Artemis and he found during their recent patrol by claiming that it is confidential information. If pressed, Jon will lie and claim that they found a secret smugglers' road that led into the mountains.Jon will also lie about how he took pages from Artemis' report and burned them in the fireplace in his own room.If asked, Jon claims that he slept through the night and didn't hear anything during the night except for someone's loud snoring. ## deflective measures If [[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/npcs/cael-thraelive|Cael Thraelive]] admits that he saw Jon give Artemis a vial, or if [[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/npcs/hugo-von-silverton|Hugo von Silverton]] explains that Jon bought a *Potion of Healing* from him, Jon will say that he gave the potion to Artemis and immediately shift the blame by accusing Hugo of having caused Artemis' death. Jon will also add that Hugo has been acting very nervously, and that the local merchants are known to be involved in smuggling and sometimes illegally trade in poisons.````````col-md![[plots/murder-at-the-old-wolf-inn/images/jon.png]]````
