# Introduction
If you wander the forest in the dark of night, you can hear all manner of creatures calling from deep within the trees. Under the wrong moon however, you may hear a howl that sounds a little too human. Nearby villagers know these uncanny calls signal a season of kidnappings, ambushes, and slayed livestock, unless they turn to adventurers to investigate and cleanse the foreboding thickets. This spooky forest 5e adventure is designed for one session of low level play in any fantasy setting.
## Background
**Outline** 1. Begin the Begin this quest by hearing The Howling Call in a remote village!
2. Investigate The Wood and explore the Ruined Lodge to find the source!
3. By magic or blood, Silence The Howl to save the village!
Centuries ago, the elders say, a god of chaos and blood witnessed a werewolf pack hunting under the blood moon. The sanguine god was so pleased by the lycanthropes' ferocity that they claimed the pack forever. Even today, werewolves descended from that pack or anyone who is infected with lycanthropy under the light of a blood moon is cursed with a permanent, hungry hybrid form. These sanguine werewolves grow insatiable under the red lunar eclipse, heralding their attacks with what frightened villagers call The Howling. It begins with many echoing bestial voices baying, then growling and shrieking, accompanied by a soft sobbing heard loudest in the morning light. The Howling brings misfortune and takes life.
One month ago, logging caused by the expansion of a nearby city began pushing a pack of sanguine werewolves toward remote villages. This untimely occurrence has left the villagers horrified and confused, as The Howling seems to have forsaken the moon. Each day someone's cattle–or someone–goes missing. Flyers for guard jobs and patrols cover every signpost in the region, each one promising your heroes a meager reward, but collectively relaying that these people need your party's help!
