```col-mdflexGrow=2.5===# OutlineThis encounter takes place in the home and workshop of [[person/olivia-chronosmith]], a young and talented artificer and direct descendant of the legendary artificer [[person/constantine-chronosmith]]. This can be found on a back alley off Jewel St. (P15).The PCs have a chance to converse with Olivia and even persuade her to share information about the “Song of the Gears”. The party can also discover the necessary tools and information to restore the Assembly Room in the Clockwork Tower.> [!read-aloud] **Read Aloud** > > > As you approach the shop, you see a distinctive clockwork insignia above the entrance door, signaling that you've arrived at The Watchmaker. The workshop is a building made of worn but sturdy stone. It's noticeably quiet, except for the faint rhythmic sound of ticking clocks that spills out onto the streets. As you step inside, you're met with an array of complex mechanical contraptions and fascinating timepieces lining the walls. The aroma of oil and aged wood fills the air. At a workbench towards the back of the room, a young woman with focused eyes and hands deftly adjusting a tiny mechanism catches your attention.# Additional Information As the party enters the heart of The Watchmaker, they face three key objectives, each integral to the unraveling of the Clockwork Tower's enigma. Their mission is to 1) earn the trust of [[person/olivia-chronosmith]], 2) acquire the "Song of the Gears" from her ancient music box, 3) and gather crucial items including Constantine's old blueprints and specialized tools, all while navigating an Aladdin's cave of remarkable clockwork creations, esoteric arcane components, and enticing curiosities.### **Identify [[person/olivia-chronosmith]]** The PCs need to understand that Olivia is a direct descendant of [[person/constantine-chronosmith]] and thus likely has essential knowledge about the Clockwork Tower. They can achieve this through conversation, observing her work, or even spotting a family portrait or other heirloom that identifies her lineage. As a proud member of the Chronosmith family, Olivia will not hide this fact once asked directly. She will inform the party that she is the great artificer [[person/constantine-chronosmith]]'s great-great-great-granddaughter. Neither Constantine nor his grand Clockwork Tower have been seen for nearly a century. The PCs should also learn about the "Song of the Gears", a melody only known to the Chronosmith family that Olivia can play on a music box she keeps.### **Spring Loaded Sprites** Olivia is a tinkerer and her mind is constantly searching for new challenges. The Spring Loaded Sprites are her invention to help a young, single woman running her own workshop. They provide companionship, guard her workshop and challenge her mind as she continuously works to improve their functionality.The Spring-Loaded Sprites see the newcomers as playthings. They might start causing minor mischief like hiding tools, flying around to distract the PCs, or even attempting to 'fix' them.### **Restore the Assembly Room in the Clockwork Tower** In order to restore the Assembly Room in the Clockwork Tower, the PCs will need Olivia's help. She has kept old blueprints and a set of specialized tools that once belonged to her ancestor. These tools are in a secured cabinet in her workshop, and she'll only allow the party to use them if they can prove their intentions are noble and their competence in handling such tools.# Items of Interest The workshop is a treasure trove of fascinating and potentially useful items. The following can be found in The Watchmaker:### **Chronosmith's Tools** A complete set of finely made artificer's tools once owned by [[person/constantine-chronosmith]] himself. They are perfectly balanced and incredibly durable.### **Constantine's Blueprints** Detailed blueprints of several of [[person/constantine-chronosmith]]'s designs, including the Clockwork Tower and its Assembly Room.### **“Song of the Gears” Music Box** A small, ornately decorated music box that, when wound, plays the "Song of the Gears".### **Assorted Clockwork Parts** There are bins of gears, cogs, springs, and other parts. These could be useful for anyone who dabbles in mechanical constructs or repairs.### **Arcane Components** Olivia, like her ancestor, blends magic with mechanics. She keeps a variety of arcane components on hand.### **Mysterious Clockwork Device** This device, while currently non-functional, is a puzzle box that Constantine himself designed. Who knows what secrets it might hold when fixed and unlocked?### **Timepiece Collection** Olivia maintains a collection of fascinating and exotic timepieces from different eras and regions. A knowledgeable or observant PC might recognize a piece that is valuable or historically significant.# Lair Actions On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), Olivia can take a lair action to cause one of the following effects: 1. **Grapple from Above:** Olivia activates a defensive mechanism she installed in her workshop. Mechanical arms descend from the ceiling and attempt to grapple a creature she can see. The target must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or be grappled (escape DC 15). The arms return to the ceiling and the grapple ends if the target escapes or at the end of Olivia's next turn.2. **Clockwork Rotation:** A set of hidden gears in the floor rotate, rearranging the layout of the workshop. Creatures standing on a moving floor tile must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or be moved 10 feet in a random direction.3. **Stun Blast:** Olivia activates a device that emits a dazzling array of light and sound. Each creature within 30 feet of the device must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be stunned until the end of its next turn as its senses are overloaded.4. **Steam Shroud:** Olivia throws a lever, causing a cloud of thick, obscuring steam to fill a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on a point she can see within 60 feet. The steam lasts until initiative count 20 on the next round and heavily obscures the area.# Monster Spring-Loaded Sprite# NPC [[person/olivia-chronosmith]]# plots/Story Type# Sub-Structures (Scenes)# Themes---# Structure## Exposition## Conflict## Rising Action## Climax## Falling Action## Resolution---# Components## Goals## Hooks## Stakes## Moral Quandaries## Cruel Tricks## Red Herrings---# Relations## Protagonists## Allies## Neutrals## Competitors## Adversaries---# Backdrops## Locations## Threats## Encounters## Past Events / Histories``````col-md![[plots/clockwork-tower/table-of-contents|Table of Contents]]![[~attachments/dndline.png]]**Completion Date:**
**Parent Plot:** **Related Characters:**- [[person/olivia-chronosmith]]**Related Organizations:****Related Locations:**---### World Anvil Metadata**Id:** 3d4f5d6a-d60f-4f59-97a2-c989bfc88849
**Entity Type:** Article / plot
**Category:**
**Tags:** CT-plot```
