# Outline
An ancient and mysterious mechanical tower that has just sprung up in the middle of the city. It can only be accessed by playing the "Song of the Gears". If the PCs are able to access the Clockwork Tower, they will enter at the [[plots/chronos-lobby]] in the Clockwork Tower section.

> Before you stands an enormous tower rising into the sky like a monolith of brass and iron. It's a whirlwind of gears and pistons, all moving with a beautiful, orchestrated precision that speaks to an incredible, advanced design. The sound is overwhelming, a continuous cacophony of whirs, clicks, and the soft puffing of steam. The only entrance appears to be a great circular door adorned with intricate clockwork mechanisms, a kaleidoscope of interlocking gears and cogs.

## Entrance Options
The party has two potential methods of entry. The first, perhaps more obvious option is to confront the tower's defenses directly. A successful DC 15 Investigation check reveals an array of intricate traps protecting the entrance (see below), all complex clockwork mechanisms inextricably linked to the door's opening mechanism. Daring or foolhardy adventurers might attempt to bypass or disable these traps, risking injury or worse in the process.

Alternatively, the group may seek a safer, more proper entry into the tower by way of a key of some sort. That method is found with the aid of [[person/olivia-chronosmith]], a direct descendant of [[person/constantine-chronosmith]] and the current custodian of a unique music box that plays the "Song of the Gears". When played correctly, this melodious key has the power to safely disable the tower's traps and open the way forward. Olivia, however, may not part with such a valuable family heirloom so easily. The adventurers will need to persuade her of their noble intentions or assist her in some significant way to gain her trust and the much- needed access to the Clockwork Tower.

# Traps
## Steam Jet
- **Description:** When a gear is turned incorrectly, a hidden pipe releases a jet of scalding steam.
- **Detection:** A successful DC 15 Perception check allows a character to hear the faint hissing of steam and notice the moisture around the pipe's hidden outlet.
- **Disable:** A DC 13 Dexterity check (using thieves' tools) can disable this trap.
- **Triggered:** When triggered, PCs in a 5-foot radius must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, they take 2d6 fire damage. 2d6

## Slamming Piston
- **Description:** Hidden within the metallic walls, a large piston is ready to slam out if the incorrect sequence of gears is turned. It is painted to blend seamlessly with the surrounding walls.
- **Detection:** A DC 15 Investigation check allows a character to notice the slight difference in coloration and texture on the section of the wall where the piston is housed.
- **Disable: ** A DC 12 Dexterity check (using thieves' tools) can disable this trap.
- **Triggered:** When triggered, a PC standing in front of it must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, they take 2d10 bludgeoning damage and are knocked prone. 2d10

# Environmental Actions
The Clockwork Tower can take a action to cause one of the following effects:

- **Disconcerting Din:** The tower emits a series of whirring and clanking noises, disorienting the party. Each PC must make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or be unable to take reactions until the next round.
- **Pummeling Pistons:** Pistons on the walls move in and out erratically. Each PC must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or take 2d10 2d10 bludgeoning damage from being hit by a piston.
